H.D. Buttercup Furniture Mart in Los Angeles opened in May of 2005 giving customers a new way to buy furniture.
Customers deal directly with more than 50 individual manufacturers in 150,000 square feet.

H.D. Buttercup founder and CEO Evan Cole has brought the power to the people with this new retail vision. As CEO of the legendary ABC Carpet and Home in New York City, Cole became aware of one of the major shortcomings of traditional home retail models: manufacturers were kept separate from customers. At H.D. Buttercup Cole has created an environment where the customer has direct access to the manufacturers. Customers can view each manufacturer's entire collection and get personalized design advice.

Cole likens a trip through H.D.Buttercup to shopping for the finest ingredients at a farmer's market. Each vendor engages and inspires the customer's own sense of aesthetics and taste. And shopper never know what they'll find - the H.D. Buttercup shopping experience empowers them to explore and express their own creative impulses.

Cole has brought 20 years of experience sourcing for ABC Carpet and Home to creating a shopping experience like no other. As shoppers stroll through H.D. Buttercup, they find home furnishings curated from all corners of the globe: Asian antiques,Nepalese cashmere throws, fine linens,Oriental rugs, classic hardwood armories, midcentury modern furniture and European minimalist designs.

H.D. Buttercup occupies the landmark Helms Bakery Building, an exceptional example of Zigzag Modern architecture. Built in 1931, in Los Angeles’ historic Culver City.

The building was originally constructed to house the Helms Bakery. The bakery won the contract to supply bread for the 1932 Olympics, and the building still proudly bears original signage from that era.

H.D. Buttercup undertook an extensive renovation to bring the building back to its original grandeur, revealing bow-truss ceilings, skylights and pristine maple-plank floors. In addition, the space draws its power from solar panels located on the roof.

H.D. Buttercup is located at 3225 Helms Avenue(at the corner of Venice). Hours are Monday- Saturday 10am to 7pm and Sunday 11am to 6pm.
